Dual View
The dual view tool allows you to view the same location side-by-side with imagery from different dates or orientations. To enter dual view mode, click on the dual view tool in the toolbar.
Each dual view pane is synchronized with the other. If you move one or zoom in/out, the other pane adjusts so that the center of the map and zoom level is the same.
The timeline in each pane controls that pane. This means you can select different datasets or use tools in each pane independently of each other. If you pan or zoom the map, however, the location at the center of the screen and the zoom level will stay synced between the two panes.
To view the same location with different collections, use the timeline to change either pane to the dataset you’d like to see in that pane.
To view the same location from different angles, use the compass control in the lower right corner of each pane to toggle on 3D mode and change the image orientation.
To view the same location with different collections and with different angles, use the timeline and compass control to ensure that each pane is displaying the dataset and image orientation you want.
To exit dual view mode, click on the dual view tool in the toolbar again
To maximize the space in each pane for viewing the imagery, keep tools on the toolbars such as search and the image gallery closed when not in use.
Note that sometimes images of different orientations when viewed side-by-side might initially appear to be off. However, the viewer always centers both panes on the coordinates at the center of the screen. A north facing and south facing image of the same building will have different contents the farther from the center of the screen you look because looking toward the top of the computer screen on one image will be north and on the other the top of the computer screen will be south. Always keep your point of interest in the center of the screen and remember to account for perspective and view direction when using dual view.
